Reading Reinstates Mask Requirement in City Buildings, Regardless of Vaccination Status

Reading Mayor Eddie Morán announced an update to the City’s mask policy Friday afternoon, which now requires City employees and public visitors to wear a face masks in all City owned buildings, beginning Monday, August 16.

In a statement, Mayor Morán says he consulted with the Office of Emergency Management Services for the City of Reading and the Fire Marshal in making the decision.

“This decision comes upon the recommendation of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. It is also consistent with the policy instituted by the County of Berks for all of its employees and visitors” said Mayor Morán.

“This decision was not taken lightly. However, due to the mix of vaccinated and non-vaccinated populations along with increasing infections stemming from the Delta variant, I feel it is important to reimplement masking for everyone’s safety.”

In addition, the Mayor say the City will provide inspectors, and those who interact directly with the public, KN-95 masks.
