Video: Rail Car Carrying Trash Catches Fire in Reading

Firefighters in Reading extinguished a freight train fire late Wednesday night in the City of Reading. Around 11:40pm, crews were called out to the area of Lafayette Street and Gordon Street (near Buttonwood Street) for reports of a rail car, carrying trash, that was on fire.

The freight train was carrying several different types of rail cars, with the car hauling trash positioned right after the locomotive.

The visible fire was quickly extinguished. However, several hot spots were found, which extended the time to get the fire fully under control. Once the fire was out, the train continued on down the tracks around 1am Thursday.
