Hops for Hooves Raises Over $9000 for Grey Muzzle Manor

The forecasted storms held off long enough on Saturday for the Third Annual Hops for Hooves event, which benefits Grey Muzzle Manor, to be a resounding success.

Berks county residents, many of them with their pets in tow, had the chance to sample beer, wine, offerings from various food trucks, shop local vendors, and listen to live music.

Grey Muzzle Manor is known as “The Place that Love Built” for many reasons. Grey Muzzle Manor Sanctuary, Inc. is a nonprofit organization and operated exclusively for charitable purposes, specifically to act as a sanctuary for senior animals, provide hospice care and adoption services, and community outreach programs to assist senior pets from entering the shelter system.

Grey Muzzle Manor provides animal assisted therapy which allows individuals to interact with a variety of animals in a therapeutic setting. Grey Muzzle Manor utilizes animal assisted therapy, gardening, and art therapy as part of mental health treatment.

Founder and Owner Marcy B. Tocker (MA, EAGALA certified, CAPT) has always had a deep love for “the old things”–senior animals that are sadly often overlooked when people decide to add a pet to their family–that combines easily with her impressive credentials. This love quickly expanded from offering a second chance to senior animals at the farm, to incorporating them into therapeutic activities for individuals struggling with a variety of issues.

According to Grey Muzzle Manor volunteer Janelle Briscoe, in addition to providing sanctuary to animals in need, Tocker also welcomes the pets of those suffering from domestic violence, mental health issues, and substance abuse issues into the Manor so that they can seek treatment without losing their beloved animals (the SAFER program).

When asked how the community can get involved and support Grey Muzzle Manor, volunteer Flame Vo shared that there is a volunteer sign up on the website, and Tocker said that they have an Amazon wish list for needed items as well.

In addition to animal fostering, animal and equine assisted psychotherapy, riding lessons, and senior animal hospice, GMM is now a certified location for Stable Moments, a special program for children in foster care involving mentors and animal therapy.
