Video: New roundabout opens on Route 222 in Maidencreek Township

Part of PennDOT’s “222 Intersection Project”, the new roundabout is expected to improve traffic flow and provide drivers with an easier method of merging into traffic from adjoining roads.

This is the second roundabout PennDOT has installed on 222 between Reading and Kutztown, the first being at Route 662. A third is planned for the intersection of 222 and Genesis Drive.

The average daily traffic volume on 222 through the project limits is 26,015 vehicles daily north of the 73 intersection and 22,563 vehicles daily south of the 73 intersection.

The project also calls for the intersection of 73 and 222 to be widened with turn lanes and upgraded signalization.
