GBDF helps secure PIDA loan for local farm in Shoemakersville

The Greater Berks Development Fund (GBDF), an affiliate of the Greater Reading Chamber Alliance (GRCA), has announced that it has helped secure a $400,000 Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority (PIDA) loan for Travis and Kayla Shaak.

The Shaaks are the owners of 313 Zweizig Road, Shoemakersville, and will construct a cage-free layer barn at the property.

GBDF, Berks County’s only Certified Economic Development Organization (CEDO), facilitated the PIDA loan in conjunction with funding provided by Ephrata National Bank and the Farm Service Agency.

“The PIDA loan, with its attractive interest rate and terms, helped to make our project feasible, and we appreciate the assistance of GBDF,” said Kayla Shaak.

Working with local farms on loan assistance is a part of GBDF’s mission as well as supporting the County of Berks’ agricultural work.

“We are pleased to be able to assist the Shaaks with their project, as the provision of financial assistance to the agricultural community is a strong component of the County of Berks’ recommendations under its Growing Berks: Agriculture’s Economic Impact and a Roadmap for its Future study that was released earlier this year,” said Debra L. Millman, President of GBDF.
