South Heidelberg Police join statewide aggressive driving enforcement campaign through November 8

The South Heidelberg Township Police Department is participating in a statewide aggressive driving enforcement campaign aimed at reducing traffic crashes, injuries, and fatalities.

The enforcement initiative, running from October 19 through November 8, 2026, includes the Pennsylvania State Police and approximately 300 municipal law enforcement agencies across Pennsylvania.

According to the department, the campaign will focus on school bus violations, Pennsylvania’s Move Over Law, tailgating, and speeding. Officers may also issue citations for other unsafe driving behaviors, including traveling too fast for road conditions and following other vehicles too closely.

The initiative comes as aggressive driving continues to contribute to serious crashes across the state. In 2025, Pennsylvania recorded 6,812 aggressive driving-related crashes, resulting in 119 fatalities and 437 suspected serious injuries, according to statistics provided by the department.

Pennsylvania also ranks among the 10 states with the highest percentage of speeding-related traffic fatalities, according to the department.

Throughout the enforcement period, participating agencies will concentrate patrols on roads with a history of aggressive driving crashes. Enforcement efforts will include traffic enforcement zones, increased patrols, speed enforcement details, work zone enforcement, and coordinated operations involving multiple jurisdictions.

Aggressive driving crashes are classified as incidents involving two or more contributing behaviors, such as speeding, running red lights or stop signs, tailgating, improper lane changes, careless passing, or driving too fast for conditions.

Police are also reminding motorists to prioritize their safety when encountering aggressive drivers. Drivers are encouraged to avoid confrontations, maintain a safe distance, and refrain from responding to aggressive gestures or behavior.

Motorists should not attempt to follow or pursue an aggressive driver. Anyone wishing to report dangerous driving can contact police, but should pull over to a safe location before using a cellphone. When possible, witnesses are encouraged to provide a license plate number and vehicle description.

The enforcement campaign is part of Pennsylvania’s Highway Safety Program and is supported through federal funding from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
