Authorities investigated 18 homicide cases in Berks County in 2021

2021 was a busy year for Berks County law enforcement agencies. According to year-to-date data provided by District Attorney John T. Adams Monday, Berks County had 18 homicides in 2021. Of those 18 homicides, 3 were murder/suicides and 1 was ruled justified homicide by the District Attorney.

“One homicide is one too many, but the numbers of homicides that we had last year is similar to neighboring counties” said Adams. “Lancaster County had 14 homicides, Dauphin County had 12 homicides and York County had 19 homicides in 2021.”

Of the other 14 homicides that occurred, arrests were made in 11. Only 3 homicides remain unsolved, to date.

Adams noted that the clearance rate of 79% is excellent and is a testament to the hard work of Berks County law enforcement and the District Attorney’s Office to bring the perpetrators of this violence to justice.

12 of the 18 homicides occurred in the City of Reading. Of those 12, 9 have been cleared by arrests, 1 was rules justified by the District Attorney and 2 remain under investigation.
