Build-up of old food residue on nonfood contact surfaces of soda dispenser: Restaurant Inspections, May 17, 2024

The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture has posted an updated list of recent Retail Food Inspection Reports for restaurants and food handlers in Berks County. Inspections are a “snapshot” of the day and time of the inspection. Violations are recorded but are often corrected on the spot prior to the inspector leaving the facility. May 7, 2024, Wingstop #2460, 532 E Lancaster Ave. Shillington, PA: Observed a build-up of old food residue on the nonfood contact surfaces of the soda dispenser.

May 7, 2024, Westy Bar & Grill, 279 W State Street, Hamburg, PA: Food employees observed in cookline area, not wearing proper hair restraints, such as nets, hats, or beard covers. Co-Owner will have cooks bring hats tomorrow. Food dispensing utensil in flour bin observed stored in the food and was not a proper scoop with handle above the top of the food and the container. Corrected. Ham was observed over the cold hold limit line and was held at 49°F, in the cookline area, rather than 41°F or below as required. Corrected, moved to below the cold hold line to bring back to 41°F. Cooked onions and mushrooms were held at 66 °F, in the cookline area, rather than 41°F or below as required. Corrected these items were put in an ice bath to lower and then maintain the temperature below 41°F. Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration

May 7, 2024, Ruby Tuesday #2946, 1665 State Hill Road, Wyomissing, PA: Assorted food items were observed in a cold hold unit held at 58°F at the cookline rather than 41°F or below as required. Keep cover on the foods to protect from heat source above this unit. Interior of ice bin on the expo line was observed to have mold and was not clean to sight and touch. Observed single-service, single-use articles stored in cookline area which were not in the original protective package or stored inverted to prevent contamination. Corrected.

May 7, 2024, MOD Pizza, 2715 N Meridian Blvd, Reading, PA: Food employee observed in prep area wearing a watch on one arm. Corrected. Commercially processed refrigerated, ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety food, located in the walk-in cooler, and held more than 24 hours, is not being marked with the date it was opened. Corrected. Food employee observed storing clean food equipment while wet, and not allowing time for draining and/or air-drying. Corrected. A working container of glass cleaner was stored above or on the same shelf with food, equipment, and/or single service articles in the dry storage area. Corrected.

May 14, 2024, The Pulse Café, 35 N 6th Street, Reading, PA: Soap was not available at the handwash sink. The handwash sink in the does not have single use towels, continuous towels, or air drying device.

May 14, 2024, Gabelsville Athletic Association, 2 N Funk Road, Boyertown, PA: The establishment was listed as out of compliance. The food facility does not have a handwash sink located in the kitchen area.

Several other restaurants were inspected during this time period with no violations reported: My Mangia in Douglassville and Reading Muhlenberg Career & Technology Center in Reading.
