In celebration of National Bike to Work Week, the Berks Area Regional Transportation Authority (BARTA) is offering free rides to bicyclists who bring their bikes aboard BARTA buses from Monday, May 12 through Friday, May 16, 2025.
The promotion encourages “multi-modal” transportation by allowing cyclists to combine biking with public transit at no cost. Riders who load their bicycles onto the bus’s front-mounted bike racks will not be required to pay a fare during the promotional week. Typically, passengers with bikes are required to pay the standard adult fare.
Each BARTA bus is equipped with a front rack that can hold up to two bicycles. However, BARTA notes that scooters do not qualify for the promotion and are not permitted under the campaign’s terms. Riders are encouraged to review BARTA’s full bike and scooter policies online.
“Biking and public transit together offer a flexible and eco-friendly alternative to driving,” the agency said, highlighting the benefits of integrating cycling into daily commutes.
National Bike to Work Week is part of the broader National Bike Month, which is recognized every May. Additional information about biking initiatives is available at www.bikeleague.org. Details about the BARTA promotion can be found at www.bartabus.com or by calling 610-921-0601.
