City of Reading to hold public meeting on next steps for Bernhart’s Dam & Park

Reading City Council and Administration will be holding a public meeting next week to inform the public about the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection’s order to remove Bernhart’s Dam and to provide the public with the plan for the surrounding park.

The meeting will be held Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at the Chabad of Berks County, 2320 Hampden Blvd from 6pm to 7:30pm.

The Muhlenberg Township Commissioners, Laureldale Borough Council, and their Directors have been invited to attend and participate. Following a presentation on the plan for the park, there will be time for questions and comment for all residents.

The Chabad of Berks County and Rabbi Lipsker opened their facility to allow the meeting to be held in a location proximate to Bernhart’s Park and central for Reading, Muhlenberg, and Laureldale residents.

The meetings agenda includes: Introduction of elected officials and staff, history of the park’s dewatering and lead remediation, work done to date at the park and the recovery of the environment, next steps to be taken and public comment/questions

Those wishing to make comments or ask questions will have up to three minutes to speak.
