Officials ask public to stay away from unstable building on Penn Street

City officials are asking the public to stay clear of an unstable building in the 400 block of Penn Street. The announcement was made Monday morning, fencing has been installed around the area of 431 Penn Street.

“The City of Reading has installed temporary protective fencing in front of the 431 Penn Street property. This is being done in an abundance of caution while the City works with its engineers and code officials to promptly schedule necessary repairs to the building” said Mayor Eddie Moran in a press release.

Access to the Alvernia CollegeTowne campus will see a restriction via Court Street and with traffic redirected through the 4th & Penn Streets while work is being completed.

Moran added, “we ask the general public to please avoid the active construction site and notify the City’s Citizens Service Center of any irregularity at 877-727-3234.”
