Reading City Councilman Jaime Baez Jr. will host the annual Party at the Park on Saturday, Aug. 22, bringing an afternoon of activities, resources and entertainment to Pendora Park.
The free community event will run from 1 to 6 p.m. at the park, located at 1805 Forrest St. in Reading.
Activities will include backpack and school supply giveaways, bounce houses, a dunk tank, food trucks, local vendors, live entertainment, free haircuts, face painting and community resources. Attendees will also have an opportunity to enter a raffle for Philadelphia 76ers tickets.
This year’s event will introduce several educational and community-focused programs, including a Civics 101 session covering the roles and responsibilities of local elected officials and the three branches of government.
A homeownership class will provide information about steps and resources available to prepare for purchasing and owning a home, while a funeral planning seminar will cover planning options and considerations.
Youth volunteers will also provide technology assistance to residents, particularly older adults, who want help understanding smartphones, apps, other technology and artificial intelligence.
Party at the Park will continue its annual tradition of honoring Reading residents whose lives have been lost to violence. Previous events have included the dedication of a memorial bench and tree.
This year, orange bricks engraved with the names of loved ones will be placed in their memory.
Party at the Park is free and open to the public.
