Five Berks artists named finalists in statewide “Art of the State” exhibition

Five artists from Berks County have been named finalists in the 58th annual “Art of the State” exhibition, presented by The State Museum of Pennsylvania. The exhibition, which opens June 8 in Harrisburg, showcases outstanding works from across the Commonwealth, celebrating Pennsylvania’s diverse artistic talent.

Representing Berks County in this year’s prestigious event are Amy Forsyth, Rachel Heberling, Carl Kaucher, Jay Ressler, and Steve Scheuring. Their work was selected from a competitive pool of 2,344 entries submitted by 696 artists statewide.

The finalists were chosen through a rigorous review process by a panel of art experts, who scored submissions in five categories: painting, photography/digital media, craft, sculpture, and works on paper. The top-rated entries in each category were selected for exhibition.

Art of the State is widely recognized as a premier juried exhibition in Pennsylvania, providing artists with an opportunity to showcase their work in a statewide forum. This year’s event features 96 artists from more than 30 counties.

Cash prizes totaling $5,300 will be awarded to first, second, and third place winners in each category, along with a Docents’ Choice Award. The winners will be announced on The State Museum’s Facebook and X (formerly Twitter) pages following the exhibition’s opening.

The exhibition will be open to the public from June 8 through September 14, 2025. Admission is free on opening day, coinciding with Harrisburg’s Gallery Walk, which offers additional opportunities to experience the arts in the city.

The “Art of the State” exhibition is presented by The State Museum of Pennsylvania in partnership with the Pennsylvania Heritage Foundation, the nonprofit partner of the Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission.
