Helping Hands for Hope is a new initiative by the One Love Project and its volunteers to give new life to gardens and greens areas in the City of Reading.
Working in conjunction with Public Works Department and Hope Lutheran Church, the group helped neighbors of the area surrounding the Church give a new look and feel to the two lots at 626 and 628 North Front Street, last Sunday.
Organizers say the area was a little neglected to begin with, but with help the grass was cut and a new garden began to be shaped in, which the neighbors can now use to plant and have a space to have contact with nature within an urban area.
Several areas were made to plant vegetables and plant flowers, several garden seats were installed up to a beautiful birdbath.
Javier A. Flores Hernandez, organizer of the Helping Hand for Hope initiative, also mentioned that the One Love Project is available to help in other parts of the City as well.
“They approached us to save this area of recreation and contact with nature and we did not hesitate to say yes, and we did so we feel very proud of the great work that was done together with these governmental and religious entities” he said.
“Thanks to all the volunteers who participated in this rescue of this green area that so much needed these small areas become lungs for our communities, we hope that the residents of the area will enjoy it and preserve it.”
